Nothing Can Separate Us

One of my fondest memories growing up was visiting the dentist’s office. [Record scratch] That’s right—the dentist’s office… because it had Highlights magazine.

Highlights had a puzzle where you had to find hidden items in a picture. It mesmerized me. I loved discovering things that, at first glance, were easy to miss. And it took my mind off the fact that I was about to get a terrible, gritty substance spread all over my teeth. But I digress…

This summer, we’ve adventured together through Romans 8 and discovered some glorious truths that aren’t always obvious at first glance. Highlights like the fact that Romans 8 is one of the most Trinitarian passages in all of Scripture. Or that being co-heirs with Christ means receiving an inheritance that calls us to be God’s ministers and ambassadors in the world—joining God in his ongoing work of new creation, which was part of our original calling as image-bearers of God.

This Sunday, we’ll take a closer look at the final verses of the chapter: Romans 8:35–39. Like the rest of Romans 8, there are truths here that are easy to miss if we aren’t paying attention—promises that have been deeply encouraging me as I’ve been focusing on them.
