Is God For You?

This Sunday, we’re continuing our journey through Romans 8 with verses 31-34 and one of Paul’s boldest claims, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” It’s a beautiful truth but it can also be challenging to embody in certain circumstances of life. We will be processing the questions, If God is for us, what do we do with the moments when life looks like he isn’t? What do we hold onto when our circumstances seem to contradict what we believe about God? Paul does not ask us to ignore those circumstances or pretend everything is okay (recall our calling to lament and groan). Instead, he gives us something solid to stand on. He invites us to look at what God has given (8:31-32), what God has declared (8:33), and what Jesus is doing even now (8:34). When everything around us makes us wonder whether God is for us, Paul invites us to come back to what we know. When we cannot make sense of what God is doing, we can hold onto what we know God has done.
